Workplace Drama, How Much Is It Costing You? | Can't Find Good Employees West Palm Beach

Business owners know that drama in the workplace can affect productivity and drain morale, but have you ever considered the dollar amount it could be costing you and your organization?

CPP Inc., publishers of the Myers-Briggs Assessment and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument, commissioned a study on workplace conflict and how businesses can harness it to thrive. They found that in 2008, U.S. employees spent 2.8 hours per week dealing with conflict. This amounts to approximately $359 billion in paid hours (based on average hourly earnings of $17.95), or the equivalent of 385 million working days. Other staggering findings from the CPP study included 25 percent of employees said that avoiding conflict led to sickness or absence from work. Equally alarming, nearly 10 percent reported that workplace conflict led to project failure and more than one-third said that conflict resulted in someone leaving the company, either through firing or quitting. Employee turnover due to conflict is also expensive. Replacing an employee can cost you 150 to 200 percent more than that employee's salary and benefits (including everything from placing ads to training the new hire, paying severance, and the lost investment you made in the previous employee.)

It is important to avoid costly conflict by hiring smart to avoid personality clashes and stress in the workplace. If you’re having trouble finding good employees in West Palm Beach or South Florida, reach out to Sloane Staffing today and we can help you make smart hires that make sense for your business. We will handle all preliminary interviews, background checks, and personality assessments to ensure your organization has the right balance of personality types needed to avoid workplace drama. The less time your employees spend on conflict, the more time they will have to do their jobs!

Ways To Support Working Mothers In Your Organization | Staffing Agency South Florida

Here at Sloane Staffing, a staffing agency in South Florida, we believe 100% in work life balance and we know that balancing work with parenting duties can be a serious struggle. For new moms, making the transition back to work after maternity leave can be a difficult process. However, those organizations that go above and beyond in supporting working parents will benefit from a more loyal, engaged and happy workforce. So, how can you help working mothers in your organization?

1) Offer Remote Work- If you’re able to in your business, consider letting your employees work a proportion of hours from home each week. They can be in office for necessary meetings, but have the flexibility to be home in the mornings to see their children off to school, or pick them up when school lets out in the afternoon.

2) Increase Paid Maternity Leave- Paid maternity leave in the US is ranked as one of the lowest in the country. In Canada, new mothers can expect almost 15 weeks paid maternity leave, with some companies even offering a FULL YEAR. Let your new mother’s have a little extra time off and it will pay off in the end - you won’t be seeing yourself with a turnover issues every time someone in the office “drinks the water.”

3) Offer on-site perks- Mother’s hardly ever want to leave their children, if they are allowed to bring them in to the office, or if your office provides free day care on site where they can still watch over their loved ones, they will be much happier. On-site dry-cleaning, grocery delivery, car services - all of these are necessities for working professionals, but it's tough to get them done during work hours or when you have kids. Consider having these services outsourced for your employees.

The bottom line is, you should always be supportive of working mothers in your organization. If you have any questions about the above call us at 561.512.8989.

Unlimited PTO: Is It Right For Your Company And Your Employees? | IT Recruitment Company South Florida

Here at Sloane Staffing, an IT Recruitment company in South Florida, we work with a lot of companies on the smaller size (around 50 employees) that don’t always have established HR teams. We get a lot of questions from CEO’s and owners of companies about establishing the best health insurance and benefits possible for their employees. One question we hear all the time is “What is unlimited paid time off, and is it right for my employees?” First, let’s define the term “unlimited PTO.” Just as the name suggests, an unlimited PTO policy is a vacation policy in which employees are not given a predetermined number of days off. Employees can take as many vacation, sick, personal, or mental health days as they need, so long as their manager approves their time off. While unlimited PTO can act as a strong recruiting tool, it’s up to the business owner to decide if offering this to their employees makes sense for their business. A lot of times, unlimited PTO can be a good thing - it can act as a retention tool to retain those top employees you don’t want to lose. There’s also no rush to take unused vacation days at the end of the year, so you won’t have any empty office come December 12th. The policy can also be easily abused. If an employee chooses to abuse the unlimited PTO policy, you might have a hard time terminating them for being absent because they are allowed that time off. It’s up to you to decide what works best for your business. If you have any questions about this, don’t hesitate to contact us at 561-512-8989.

Should Your Office Be CPR Certified? | Help Employing South Florida

If you own a business that is working to help employ South Florida, then the fast and easy answer to this question is yes. Most people spend the majority of their time at their workplace, and it’s possible they could have a heart attack at work. If something like this occurs, will you as management or anyone in your office know what to do? If someone in your office is having cardiac arrest, their life could depend on whether or not someone knows cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR is a great asset to have in your office. If you are not comfortable giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to someone else in the office, you can learn hands-only CPR. Here’s why office workers should be trained in CPR.

Learning How To Perform CPR Is Easy. In one easy class, your office can learn how to perform CPR. Check out the American Red Cross to sign up, their classes are trusted, affordable and convenient.

Knowing CPR Could Save A Life. Each year, thousands of people have cardiac arrest in the United States. These heart problems often occur where they spend the most of their time: in the office. CPR can help with keeping the person’s blood circulating until an emergency responder arrives. If there isn’t someone in your office who knows CPR, the person affected by cardiac arrest unfortunately has a decreased chance of survival.

You Can Become A Greater Asset To Your Office. Knowing CPR can potentially make you more valuable in your office - you know how to save a life! You will be an asset to someone who is in need of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Knowing CPR is a valuable skill you can add to your resume.

If you are a business owner, or a manager, and are thinking about bringing CPR training to your office, we highly recommend it! Contact us today with any questions.

5 Hiring Trends To Watch In 2019 | Company Filling Positions Boca Raton

Are you a company filling positions in Boca Raton? Is your goal for 2019 to build out your teams? If you want the best workers this year, here are the top 5 hiring trends we at Sloane Staffing predict for 2019.

  1. Build A Talent Pool. A talent pool is a group of highly-qualified candidates who are interested in working for your company. This will ensure you always have access to candidate’s updated resumes. Read more about how to create one here.

  2. Streamline Your Application Process. Quality candidates will drop out of your application process if it’s too long and confusing. Save the questions for the in-person interview, getting them in the door is most important. Make it easy for them to apply for jobs. Nowadays, people don’t want to fill out pages and pages of application forms. They want fast results and to be able to apply for jobs on the move. Make sure they are able to apply for your jobs on their mobile devices.

  3. Candidates Are No Longer Hired Based Off Of Their Degrees. Times have changed. In some cases, experience is preferred over an actual degree. One survey found that 45.8% of hiring professionals measure success on candidate experience. Take that into consideration.

  4. Use Social Media As A Recruiting Tool. With LinkedIn and LinkedIn recruiter being the obvious ones, social media is a great way to attract good candidates. We pick up a lot of talent through both LinkedIn and Facebook.

  5. Target Passive Candidates. One of the biggest trends we see is that the best candidates are not always necessarily open to new opportunities. However, once we explain the position and the benefits of the new job, they start to see it as their next role. Hire a staffing agency to help you sell these top candidates. Try re-targeting with an email campaign.

How To Turn Your Temporary Hire Into A Top Employee | Tech Company Staffing West Palm Beach

Here at Sloane Staffing, a tech company staffing West Palm Beach, we’ve noticed a trend: hiring temporary or “contract” workers, become increasingly popular. Hiring a temp, or a contractor, is a great way to test out the employee to make sure they fit with the company culture and can do the job they say they can, before bringing them on to the payroll permanently. It can be tough to land a good hire this way though, because a lot of candidates don’t want to leave their full time job if their next role is not a sure thing. It’s important to make contractors feel like they are just as much a part of the team as the rest of the organization. If you want to turn a temp, into a great full-time employee, there are a few things you can do. First, set clear expectations with the contractor. Don’t lie to them, and be transparent about their role, their salary, and if they will have the opportunity or not to become a full-time employee at your company. Temps are usually ambitious, and will go above and beyond what is expected of them. Also, be sure to provide lots of opportunities for them. This includes networking and learning opportunities. Provide the same training to a contractor you would a full-time employee. Also, show them recognition and support. By including them, they will want to join your organization just as much as you want to bring them on. With regards to day-to-day work, small and frequent recognition can go a long way to retaining your best-performing temporary workers. We hope these tips help you turn your temporary hire into a top employee at your company. If you need help from a tech company staffing West Palm Beach, contact us today at 561.512.8989.

Why You Should Never No-Show To An Interview | Can't Find Good Employees West Palm Beach

At Sloane Staffing, we’ve been working hard for one of our clients who can’ t find good employees in West Palm Beach. Unfortunately this morning, we had the worst possible situation happen for our client - the candidate they were supposed to interview was a “no-show.” In case you can’t figure it out by the name, a “no-show” is a person who has made a reservation, booking, or appointment but neither keeps nor cancels it. So, we thought it would be important to explain why you should NEVER no-show to an interview.

Besides the obvious reason of it being rude - every person in the company you were scheduled to meet with and interview with, has cleared their calendars for a block of time. They are just sitting there, waiting for you. By not showing up, or even calling to say you are not coming, reflects extremely poorly on the recruiter or HR person you worked with to get you that interview. It is completely out of the recruiters control whether you show up or not.

Another reason why you should never no-show, is that your name and reputation will be tarnished. And not just at the company you didn’t show up to. Recruiters will make notes not to send you to anymore interviews, and in small towns like West Palm Beach or Boca Raton, you will have trouble landing a job. In small towns, word travels fast, and even if you are a very strong candidate, no-showing starts you off on the completely wrong foot and with a bad first impression.

We can’t stress this enough here at Sloane Staffing, always, always show up to your interview or call and let them know you are running late or won’t be coming. For more tips and tricks on how to prepare for an interview, check out Live Career.

How Your Company Can Give Back To Your Community | Help Filling Positions West Palm Beach

In addition to help filling positions in West Palm Beach, here at Sloane Staffing, we know just how important it is to give back to the community. Corporate philanthropy is defined as the act of a corporation or business promoting the welfare of others, generally through charitable donations of funds or time. Corporate philanthropy benefits the community and also benefits your company by building your brand and strengthening employee morale and camaraderie, bringing your teams together. It is important to get every one of your employees involved, at all levels. The CEO should be participating just as much as the interns. One of the more common corporate philanthropy events we see in South Florida is Habitat for Humanity. Schedule a day (or half day) to close your office and take your employees to this nonprofit organization that helps people in your community and around the world by building or improving a place they can call home. And if you want to get really creative, you can also start philanthropic traditions, such as choosing a different charity to focus on each year or during the holiday season. Regardless of company size, make sure your philanthropic efforts authentically align with your company’s values and beliefs. In recent years, the explosion of social media and the widespread adoption of its use by businesses and consumers has created a level of transparency that was completely unknown just ten years ago.  With this new atmosphere of openness and dialogue at all levels of the business cycle, consumers have become far more interested in a company’s values and corporate responsibility than ever before. If you’d like to get involved, take a look at ten awesome companies doing corporate philanthropy right. And as always, if you need help filling positions in West Palm Beach or South Florida, reach out to Sloane Staffing at 561.512.8989.

What Do The Top Companies On Social Media Do For Their Following? | Company Staffing West Palm Beach

All companies want it: thousands of followers, tons of likes, comments, post engagement, and re-tweets and shares on their social media sites, with the ultimate goal of their content going viral. Here at Sloane Staffing, a company staffing West Palm Beach, we are often asked how to make this happen. Because we all know, the stronger social media presence equals more business. So, here are our top tips for enhancing and growing your social media channels:

  1. Leverage your blog. Your blog is your number one tool, and crucial to driving traffic to your website. The best advice we can give any business owner is to take a class on SEO, and learn all about the Google “spider.” If you don’t know what we are referring to, then you definitely need to take the class!

  2. Showcase your team members. Literally putting faces behind names adds a touch of personal elements to your website and your blog. Users feel more connected and are more likely to do business with you. We personally love what Warby Parker does here: https://www.warbyparker.com/culture

  3. Stay up to date on current events. Everyday is a holiday in social media world, literally. National dog walking day, national ice cream day - the list goes on. Create content that links both your company and these holidays, and people will engage with them socially.

  4. Share inspiration. One of our favorite things to post is quotes from thought leaders, or daily inspiration. You’ll be surprised - people will tag their friends, and so forth.

  5. General engagement. People love to voice their opinion. Sites like Facebook and Instagram now have new features where you can create a poll and cast a vote. Try that out and see how well people engage with your sites.

The Benefits Of Working Outside | Agency Staffing in West Palm Beach

Here at Sloane Staffing, an agency staffing in West Palm Beach, we always suggest to our clients to give their employees the opportunity to work outside, if possible. Especially in the hectic world that is agency life, it is extremely beneficial for people to leave the office for a breath of fresh air every once in a while. Sitting inside all day, everyday at a computer can have serious long-term consequences on one’s health and well being. According to a recent survey as written about in MBG Planet, 87 percent of people said they enjoyed the outdoors, but 75 percent of them rarely or never took their work outside. Humans are not designed to sit in doors all day! This is why companies like Google have created outdoor spaces like lawns and picnic areas for their employees to enjoy. The dangers of a desk job include a greater risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer. To avoid this, companies should allow their employees to work outside. Try holding meetings outside, or scheduling team lunches or picnics in the park. Set up a wifi system so your employees can get away from their desks for a little. Nature and natural sunlight has a very powerful effect on us. Working outdoors can improve memory, lower high blood pressure, and improve teamwork. Nature is also a mood enhancer and an energy booster! Besides being a stress reliever, being outside can also help your sleep patterns at night. Employers might want to look into setting up an outdoor work space. If your employees are happy and healthy, it will positively impact your business. If you have any questions or comments, please reach out to Sloane Staffing, an agency staffing in West Palm Beach.

Staffing Predictions for 2019 | Staffing Delray Beach

Recruitment trends and predictions for this upcoming year have already been made, and here at Sloane Staffing, a staffing firm in Delray Beach, we are taking note. It has been predicted that the following will be common resources for staffing in the year 2019:

  • Mobile Recruitment: More and more candidates are using their phones and tablets to look for and apply for jobs. According to Glassdoor, 89% of candidates use mobile platforms to search for jobs. Companies should work to make it easier for candidates to apply directly from their phones if they want to see an increase in their job applicants and submissions.

  • More Flexible Working Conditions: Contract work and temporary positions are becoming more and more popular among candidates. Even more attractive to potential new employees is the opportunity to work remotely, or work from home. Allowing candidates to work remote even just one day a week will greatly increase your submissions.

  • Leveraging A Staffing Agency: Staffing agencies have valuable industry expertise that help companies who struggle with hiring. Working with recruiters also reduces friction among hiring managers. For example, positions in fields like IT, engineering and software development have specific requirements that can be hard to understand for talent acquisition generalists who lack direct industry experience. Plus, staffing agencies close relationships that they keep with top candidates in the market can lead to a faster hiring process.

If you are thinking of working with a staffing firm in Delray Beach, call Sloane Staffing today at 561.512.8989. The next time you find yourself searching for talent, you don't have to go at it alone!

However, companies that use them save dramatically on overhead costs associated with staffing an in-house HR department. In addition, not every business needs a full-time, direct hire employee. Some only need part-time, temporary or short-term contract help. By going through a staffing agency, a business can avoid paying for employee services that exceed their actual needs.
